Blog 4: Painted Faces and Long Hair

Some things I am having trouble adjusting to on the island are having to hunt for our own food, build our own shelter and always make the signal fire is going. The hardest one for me is building the shelter because at first they all helped but then it was just a few of us. The littluns aren't very helpful with hunting and keeping the fire going. They just sit around eating fruit all day and playing in the sand. Everyone paints their faces because we're going on a hunt and they want to camouflage themselves so the pig doesn't seem them. All of the hunters and Samneric go the hunt. Because Samneric go on the hunt the signal fire burns out. I got upset because Jack should have left Samneric to keep the fire going. If Samneric had stayed then maybe we could have gotten rescued when I saw the ship go by. This makes me so upset because we might not get that chance again. In order to take charge of the boys again I called an assembly by blowing the conch. When I blew the conch the boys came and we talked about what happened when Samneric left the fire to go with Jack. I don't fee like hunting is the most important thing right now. The signal fire is the most important thing on the island because its our only chance of getting rescued.
